After reading a classmate's blog, I am compelled to talk about my "children". And by that I mean my two cats. My classmate spoke about her cat and how she has the ability to find a niche anywhere. In a shoe box, in a grocery bag, or on the keyboard as she's trying to type. See The World As I See It. I have always had cats growing up but knew I wasn't quite ready to have a pet when I was first on mine own. I recently got a kitten to help a friend out who had 13 kittens to find homes for. My colleagues convinced me to get two kittens for one would just be too lonely. Well, the kittens are now 10 months old and I have several gray hairs because of it...
The misdoings of my so-called children:
* laces and drawstrings broken
* corners of table and bureau chewed
* clothes missing from the drying rack
* wires chewed
* napkin basket emptied and shredded
* plants knocked over
* flowers eaten
* hole dug in the wall
* paws in flickering candles
* several pens and hair ties missing
* various drinks sampled
* food eaten
* licked and woken up way too early
...you get the point.
However, they love to cuddle, they're at the door waiting each time I come home and they don't talk back! Although they can be a menace, like real children we love them just the same!
Coolio and Jack
I am not a big fan of cats even though I grew up with them. I feel cats can get into a lot of trouble, as Colette has pointed out in her blog. People who know me, know that I have dog, but this dog weighs less than most cats! Over all having a pet does bring much joy into people's lives. When you are having a bad day, it is nice to come home to a nice loving pet, who loves you unconditionally
ReplyDeleteI love cats, but I am sooo allergic to them! My mom discovered her allergy to cats when I was 9 months old and almost died. My parents had to shampoo the carpets and clean the air ducks. We later discovered that the allergy was passed on to me. If I could have any pet I would have a cat! I am jealous.
ReplyDeleteI also grew up with cats, and as soon as we (my husband and I)bought our first house we got a cat. I expected him to cuddle and be lovable. What I did not count on was our dog, also new, to chase him relentlessly. Instead of a lovable, cuddly cat, we ended up with the devil cat. It has taken seven years for our cat to really like us. It is such a different experience for me compared to my childhood. It is definitely made me rethink getting another cat anytime soon. Of course, my kids do not help the situation any. Olivia tries to catch the cat all the time, so he bats her in the head. He is declawed. It is actually pretty funny to watch because she just keeps trying to get him. I guess the cat is part of the family now since he tolerates the kids. Good luck with your two mischief makers.

ReplyDeleteThey certainly are curious and mischievous! If it's not one thing happening, it's another that will happen. But in the end, the good outweighs all the bad...
You linked my blog!!! I love the photo of Coolio in the plant. You could submit that to a photo contest and win, I am sure of it! I laughed when I saw mention of the hair ties. My cats are classic for that. The best is when you find a "nest" of them. Great post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah! It was the picture of your cat that prompted my post...isn't that what this is all about? ...collaboration and conversation :)
